nce featured on Lagos Television (LTV) fashion programme for the elegance of his apparel, Temitope Kawojue is a budding young Nigerian entrepreneur. An ambitious and forward-looking fellow, his ultimate goal is to own a fashion line that can rival the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Addidas, Versace and other global leading brands. For Temitope, who sees ‘no dogmatic approach to fashion’, SkayCourture, a clothing line he is currently promoting, was established to redefine the philosophy of fashion in line with this thinking. Consequently, the garments that roll out of the company are inventively designed to meet the specific and particular fits and tastes of clients.
Temitope who had proactively trained as a fashion designer in 2016, effectively started the business while still on his national service in 2017. While serving as a corps member, Temitope made some income for himself running a small-scale training programme for his colleagues on the application of designs on fabrics. On his redeployment to Oyo State, he combined fashion with his national assignment, working for Olanreforward Vocational School as fashion instructor while also teaching Civic Education at the Abadina College University of Ibadan. Discovering a niche in making female clothing, he latched on to this aspect of garment making and earned for himself immediate recognition in that regard. He was selected to facilitate a training program organized by EDEN-I, an NGO that specializes in female designs, to teach students the rudiments of fashion design.
Temitope brought into his fashion trade some experience from elsewhere, one that has of course served him so well. His internship between 2015 and 2016 at Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc., at the Engineering Unit where he interacted with a lot of clients, helped to hone his skills in customer relations. Excellent customer management being of such critical importance in the fashion business, Temitope has found his new outfit literally sprawling with clients visibly pleased with doing business with him, thanks to his stint with the insurance company.
Business in the 21st century is driven by digital technology, a fact that is not lost on Temitope. Through his avid engagement on digital platforms, he has given business a lot of momentum and traction using the social media. As the face behind SkayCouture, he has received commendations and comments for his ability to translate ideas into something beautiful on fabrics. This perhaps explains the reason why he has high patronage from a number of on-air-personalities (OAPs) for exquisite and trendy clothing. Temitope currently holds vocational trainings on fashion design and is making preparation to build his fashion institute.
Yet, his apetite for more learning is not waning. A graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management of Nigeria, he is currently studying for his Master’s degree, after his Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance at the University of Lagos.
